Different contexts of child psychology
What matters when you think of development? If you're like most people, you probably think about the internal factors that determine how a baby grows, such as genetics and personal traits.

However, development is much more than a person's inner influence. Environmental factors such as social relationships and the culture in which we live also play an essential role.









In some of the key contexts in our analysis of child psychology we need to consider:

Social context

Relationships with nobles and adults affect how children feel, learn and develop. Families, schools and peer groups play an important role in the social context.







Cultural context

The culture in which a child lives contributes to the values, customs, shared assumptions and way of life that influence development throughout life. Culture can play a role in how a child is treated by their parents, the type of education they receive and the type of child care provided.







Socio-economic context


Social class can also play a major role in child development. Socio-economic status (often abbreviated as SES) is based on many different factors, including how much money people have in education, how much they earn, who have jobs, and where they live. Opportunities are more available, while households with lower socioeconomic status may have less access to items such as health care, quality nutrition and education.

Such factors can have a major impact on child psychology.

Remember, all three of these contexts communicate consistently. While there are fewer opportunities due to the child’s low socioeconomic status, enriching social and cultural ties can help to correct this imbalance.
